About Winston Churchill

Biography

Winston Churchill’s parents were wealthy and he was born in Blenheim Palace. His father was a politician. He joined the army, fought in the Boer War and escaped as a prisoner.

Churchill became a Member of Parliament and then Prime Minister in 1940 during World War II. He knew that Britain needed to stand up to Hitler to stop him taking over the whole of Europe. He made an alliance of other countries called The Allies and after a long war, Hitler and the Germans were defeated.

Churchill was famous for rousing speeches including saying ‘never was so much owed by so many to so few’. After the war, his party lost the election and Churchill was no longer Prime Minister.
