Friendly Staff

Our Key People

We are lucky to have such a highly-skilled, experienced and friendly staff team at Princecroft. Staff work in conjunction with a group of volunteer governors with representatives from parents, staff, the local community and the Local Authority.

Senior Leadership Team

Mrs Pierson

Head Teacher

Mrs Pierson is the head teacher of Princecroft School. Her role is to lead the staff team and to work alongside the rest of the governing body to ensure that our school is the best it can be. Mrs Pierson is the designated safeguarding lead and the designated lead for looked after children.

She leads English and music, oversees how the curriculum is designed and delivers training for teachers. Mrs Pierson has taught in North Yorkshire, Staffordshire and Wiltshire. She has a BA (Hons) in Primary Education 5-11 with a music specialism, is an experienced SENCo and has a PG Cert in Vulnerable Learners and Inclusion. She is also a national Arts Award Adviser.

Mr Hampson

Deputy Headteacher

Mr Hampson is our Deputy Head teacher, and also teaches for part of the week in our year 6 class. In possession of the SENCo award, Mr Hampson is currently covering the SENCo role whilst Mrs Jones is on maternity leave.

Mr Hampson leads on English within the curriculum, and also oversees the ECT programme as our Induction Tutor. Originally primary trained, Mr Hampson has ten years teaching experience across Somerset within primary schools, secondary ASD bases and independent SEMH/SEND provision. He holds a BA (Hons) in Popular Music Performance and his PGCE has a music specialism attached.

Mrs Jones

SENDCo

Mrs Jones is our Inclusion Lead and our Special Educational Needs and Disabilities Coordinator (SENDCo). Her role is to ensure our policies for SEND are effective and appropriate, to coordinate additional provision for vulnerable learners, to liaise with external professionals when necessary and to ensure staff know how to make adjustments in class in order for every child to make progress. She has taught in Somerset and Wiltshire schools, has a BA (Hons) in History, a PGCE in Primary and Early Years with Qualified Teacher Status and holds a National Award for Special Educational Needs Coordination.

Mrs Foyle

Senior Teacher

Mrs Foyle is our Year 4 teacher. As our Curriculum Lead, she has responsibility for overseeing the school curriculum – particularly focussing on the way information is presented to the children, and on the vocabulary they are taught. She is heavily involved in supporting our Sounds~Write teaching, having been trained specifically with a vocabulary specialism in Years 3-6. She is currently studying to become a Sounds~Write trainer. As one of our more experienced teachers, Mrs Foyle regularly supports other colleagues and is a student mentor. Mrs Foyle has taught in Wiltshire across Years 5 and 6. She has a BA (Hons) degree in Childhood, Youth and Education Studies, and a PGCE in Primary Education (5-11).

Mrs Harley

Senior Teacher

Mrs Harley is one of our more experienced teachers and she leads Sounds~Write and Talk4Writing through the school. She has successfully led on art, writing most of the curriculum and gaining Artsmark gold. She has had extensive input into curriculum design as a whole and has delivered training for other teachers in Sounds~Write and reading. Mrs Harley teaches for 4 days in Year 1 and has spent the last 7 years working across Key Stage 1 at Princecroft. She is studying to become a Sounds~Write trainer. Mrs Harley has a BA (Hons) in Education Studies and Art, a PGCE Primary Years 5-11 and a Master of Arts in Educational Practice.

Early Years Teaching Team

Mrs Legg-Bagg

Nursery Teacher

Mrs Legg-Bagg is our nursery leader and teacher who is responsible for our youngest children in The Hive. She works with an experienced staff team to ensure that The Hive offers the best learning opportunities in an excellent, purpose-built environment. Mrs Legg-Bagg works closely with families to successfully settle new children into the nursery so that our 3 and 4 year olds get the very best start to their education. Mrs Legg-Bagg has worked in schools in Manchester and Wiltshire. She has a BA (Hons) in Politics and Economics, a PGCE in Early Years 3-7, and is trained in Paediatric First Aid. She is also a Level 3 Forest School Leader.

Mrs Hampshire

Nursery Teacher

Mrs Hampshire teaches in The Hive on Tuesday and Wednesday. She is our geography subject leader and oversees the curriculum provision for this subject throughout the school. Mrs Hampshire has worked at Princecroft for almost 10 years, and during that time she has worked in every year group, including some mixed year classes. Like all our teachers, Mrs Hampshire is Sounds~Write trained and it is her who introduces formal phonics lessons to the children when they start school. She has a BA Hons degree in Primary Education with Qualified Teacher Status.

Mrs Bennett

Nursery Teaching Assistant

Mrs Bennett works as a teaching assistant and key worker in The Hive Nursery. She is very experienced, having worked in local nursery settings for 20 years. She was a nursery room supervisor before joining Princecroft in 2016, and since then, she has worked in the classroom supporting teachers and students, including those with additional needs. She has a BTEC National Diploma in Care and NVQ levels 2 and 3 in Childcare and Education. Mrs Bennett is also ELSA trained, meaning she can offer support around emotional wellbeing for children who need it.

Miss Penney

Nursery Teaching Assistant

Miss Penney is a teaching assistant in The Hive Nursery with our youngest children. Her role involves taking care of the children in all aspects of their day, providing rich learning opportunities, and observing them in their play. She identifies children’s next steps in order for them to reach the next stage in their development. Miss Penney has worked in another school before Princecroft for 22 years and has worked across Early Years and Key Stage 1. Miss Penney is qualified to Level 3 and has a BTEC in Childhood Studies.

Mrs Carpenter

Nursery Teaching Assistant

Mrs Carpenter works as a teaching assistant in our nursery and has a Level 3 Teaching Assistant Diploma. Her role is to support the teachers and work with children to ensure they are settled and make good progress with their learning. She has over 10 years’ experience in the primary education setting. Mrs Carpenter has an NCFE/CACHE Level 3 in Supporting Teaching and Learning. She is Sounds~Write trained and has also completed training for our Play Pod which the children use at breaks and lunch times.

Mrs Harley

Mrs Harley teaches for 4 days in Reception and has spent the last 7 years working across Key Stage 1 at Princecroft. Mrs Harley is one of our more experienced teachers and she leads Sounds~Write and Talk4Writing through the school. Mrs Reid

Reception Teaching Assistant

Mrs Reid works as a teaching assistant in our Reception class. She supports the teachers and pupils to ensure all children learn effectively. Mrs Reid is very experienced working across the primary age phase and has supported children with additional needs. She is Sounds~Write trained and leads group teaching for the children who need further support. She has an NVQ Level 3 Teaching Assistant qualification and has Level 2 BSL Basic Sign Language (due to working as a TA in a school for deaf children for 5 years). Mrs Reid is ELSA trained to support children with emotional wellbeing and she also runs a gardening club for children of all ages.

Miss Surridge

Year 1 Teacher

Miss Surridge is our Year 1 class teacher. Miss Surridge has spent all of her teaching career so far at Princecroft. She has recently become a volunteer mentor, supporting those wishing to volunteer their time within the school.  She has a BA (Hons) degree in Early Years Education with Qualified Teacher Status.
Miss Stokes

Year 1 Teaching Assistant

Miss Stokes works as a teaching assistant in our Year 1 class. She supports the class teachers and the pupils, making sure the children can all learn effectively. Since joining Princecroft, Miss Stokes has provided lots of 1:1 support for children with additional needs. She is very experienced, having worked in primary education for 21 years. Miss Stokes is qualified to Level 2 in SEN, has ASD training, and has a range of medical training such as epilepsy, medication, diabetes and paediatric first aid. Like all our staff, she is also trained in Sounds~Write.

Miss Reynolds

Year 1 Teaching Assistant

Miss Reynolds works as a teaching assistant in Year 1. She also has HLTA status which allows her to teach whole classes in a teacher’s absence. Miss Reynolds is involved in leading PE across the school with Miss Surridge and Miss Wood. She has taught across all year groups, particularly in PE. Miss Reynolds is very experienced, having worked at Princecroft for 18 years. She helps to organise PE events for our school such as competitive matches, competitions and sports day.

Year 1 Teaching Assistant

Mrs Batchelor

Year 2 Teacher

Mrs Batchelor teaches in Year 2. She leads PSHE and art across the school. Her role includes making sure the environment at Princecroft is creative and kept to a high standard. She oversees the planning of displays with the teachers and works with a team of art ambassadors in Year 6 to make artistic decisions in the school. Mrs Batchelor is heavily involved in planning arts events and ensuring we retain our Artsmark Gold status. Mrs Batchelor has taught in Somerset and Wiltshire. She has a BA (Hons) in Fine Art and Sculpture and a PGCE in Early Years and Key Stage 1.

Mrs Newton

Year 2 Teaching Assistant

Mrs Newton is a teaching assistant who works part time in our Year 2 class. Here she supports children with their learning in English and maths. She is a trained teacher and has a PGCE in Primary Education. Mrs Newton has previously taught across the primary age phase in Early Years, Key Stage 1 and Key Stage 2, as well as covering classes for teachers during their planning, preparation and assessment time.

Miss Dredge

Year 3 Teacher

Miss Dredge is our Year 5 class teacher. She has recently completed her teacher training within an academy trust working across Key Stages 1 and 2. Prior to that, Miss Dredge worked as a HLTA and gained experience supporting learning across the primary and secondary age phases. She has also taught curriculum support classes for pupils with additional needs. Miss Dredge has completed a Post Graduate Certificate in Education, a BA (Hons) in Professional Practice in Education, a Foundation degree in Teaching and Learning and Levels 2 and 3 in Supporting, Teaching, Learning and Schools.

Mrs Foyle is our Year 4 teacher. Miss Winstanley

Year 4 Teaching Assistant

Miss Winstanley works as a teaching assistant in our Year 4 class. She is very experienced, having worked at Princecroft for nine years in all age phases. Miss Winstanley is ELSA trained, meaning she can offer support to children around emotional wellbeing. Like all of our staff, she is also Sounds~Write trained. Miss Winstanley’s role includes greeting all of our children as they arrive at school each morning and she has a key role at breaks and lunch times to ensure everyone is happy and safe. She is a qualified first-aider.

Miss Wood

Year 5 Teacher

Miss Wood is our Year 5 teacher. She leads science across the school and PE alongside Miss Surridge. She is also a staff governor, which means she ensures the staff voice is heard in governors’ meetings. Her responsibilities include overseeing the PE curriculum, including extra-curricular events; she often coaches after-school sports clubs. Miss Wood first taught at Princecroft as a student teacher in Year 6, before she joined us as a member of staff. She has since been a student mentor and has coached trainee teachers in school. She has a BSc in Criminology and Psychology and a PGCE with Qualified Teacher Status.

Mrs Moore

Year 3 Teaching Assistant

Mrs Moore works as a teaching assistant in our Year 3 class, and she also provides wrap-around care for our youngest children in The Hive Nursery. Mrs Moore is ELSA trained and provides support around emotional well-being. She is Sounds~Write trained and delivers interventions for pupils requiring more support. Mrs Moore has a Level 3 diploma and Cache Level 2 Certificate for the Children and Young People’s Workforce. She has training in paediatric first aid, anaphylaxis and seizures. Mrs Moore is very experienced, having worked in adult mental health before choosing to make a difference to young people in their education. She has worked in pre-schools in Kent, London and the South West.

Mrs Brooks

Year 5 Teaching Assistant

Mrs Brooks works as a teaching assistant in our Year 5 class. She supports the class teacher and the children to ensure the teaching and learning is effective. Mrs Brooks is very experienced, having worked at Princecroft for over 25 years from Reception to Year 5. She is an emergency first-aider and is also our school fire warden. Mrs Brooks holds a Level 3 Teaching Assistant qualification, has been trained in Speech, Language and Communication in the Mainstream School and like all our staff team here, she is also Sounds~Write trained.

Mrs Lindsey

Year 6 Teacher

Mrs Lindsey is our Year 6 teacher she is responsible for leading maths across the school. Mrs Lindsey is a trained student mentor and has coached trainee teachers in school. As our Student Mentor she supports those wishing to pursue a career in education. She has taught in Devon and Wiltshire, and has experience in maths leadership across an academy trust. Mrs Lindsey has a BSc Hons degree in Business Administration and a PGCE in Primary Education with a Mathematics Specialism.

Mrs Chalmers

Year 6 Teaching Assistant

Mrs Chalmers works as a teaching assistant in our Year 6 class. She also has HLTA status which allows her to teach whole classes in a teacher’s absence. Mrs Chalmers leads on computing and teaches our computing curriculum through the school to all age phases. Like all of our staff here, she is Sounds~Write trained. Mrs Chalmers is experienced in supporting primary education, having worked at two other local schools before joining us here at Princecroft.

Mrs Cooper

Music Specialist across the school

Mrs Cooper is our specialist Music teacher. She teaches all classes throughout the school delivering our Music and RE curricula. She also teaches 1:1 piano and violin lessons in the school.

Mrs Cooper is a trained Arts Award provider and runs this programme with our year 6 students.
Mrs Cooper has worked for many years as a piano and Musical Theatre teacher for all ages as well as teaching and supporting in a number of schools. She is a grade 8 pianist and also plays the violin, ukulele and guitar.

Mrs Binns

Administration Officer

Mrs Binns is our Administration Officer and she works full time in our school office. She takes a special interest in safeguarding and is a key person in our record keeping and safeguarding systems. Mrs Binns is fluent in 4 languages: English, Dutch, German and French and has regularly taught French in school as well as supporting children with reading as she is Sounds~Write trained. She is very experienced in her role, having worked in schools for 12 years.

Mrs Dredge

Business Manager

Mrs Dredge is our Finance and HR Officer. She works in our school office on Tuesdays and Fridays. Her role includes managing the school accounts under the guidance of Mrs Osborne and she deals with the day-to-day financial aspects of our school. She is responsible for purchase ordering, paying invoices and managing the school payroll. Mrs Dredge has worked in primary and secondary schools for 15 years as part of Children’s Services. She has a BA (Hons) in History and Level 2 AAT Accountancy.

Governors

The governors meet six times a year for full governors’ meetings, and each governor is also a member of either the Resources Committee (for finance, premises and staffing issues) or the Teaching, Learning and Standards Committee which both meet generally four times a year. Each governor also takes on a specific monitoring role for different aspects of school governance.

Mrs Ros Sutton

Chair of Governors

Ros is our Chair of Governors and also our Chair of Teaching and Learning Committee. She was born in Tilshead and lived for many years in South London where she had extensive experience teaching in primary schools for 40 years. Ros retired as Headteacher of a school in the London Borough of Sutton six years ago. Since then, she has been a Chair of Governors at a school in South London and a Trustee of a nursery in New Cross.  Ros is actively involved with school life and enjoys volunteering on a regular basis.

Mr Anthony Knyvett

Co-opted Governor & Vice-Chair

Anthony is a Co-opted Governor and chairs the resources committee meetings. He regularly comes into school to hear the children read and he monitors health and safety. He has a diploma in accounting and finance which is useful in supporting the school’s financial management. Anthony’s background is military, where he was assigned a number of Army staff jobs involving business planning and contract management. More recently he has worked as a financial, commercial and administration manager for a language service company.

Mrs Jill Colbourne

Co-opted Governor

Jill sits on the resources committee and has experience in marketing and finance. She is retired after spending 30 years teaching in the further education sector. She was a Staff Governor in a college setting and a member of the senior management team. You may see Jill around school as she regularly comes in to read with our Year 6 children and she is also the link governor for The Hive Nursery.

Mrs Sue Allen

Local Authority Governor

Sue is a Local Authority Governor and has held this role for 20 years. She is also the appointed safeguarding governor, whistleblowing governor and responsible for policies, head teacher and staff appraisals. In this role, Sue undertakes regular training and courses in relation to safeguarding and governance. Sue is familiar to staff and pupils as she visits weekly with a church group to run our ‘Open the Book’ assemblies.

Mrs Joanna Gutmann

Co-opted Governor

Joanna is a Co-opted Governor and sits on the resources committee. She is the proprietor of a training business which she has owned for the last 20 years. As part of this, she is experienced in administration support, financial management and she often works with young people newly out of the school system in apprenticeship roles.

Mrs Mary Murray

Co-opted Governor & Vice-Chair

Mary is the Vice-Chair of the Governing Body and sits on the Teaching and Learning Committee. She is responsible for monitoring English and PE. Mary is a trained primary teacher. She spent five years supporting schools in the Wiltshire advisory service, and was a Headteacher for 17 years in Wiltshire primary schools. She is now retired and regularly comes into school to support us and listen to children read.

Mrs Sally Lloyd

Parent Governor

Sally is a Parent Governor and she sits on the teaching and learning committee. She has three children here at Princecroft, and prior to having her own children, she was a primary school teacher. Sally has a PGCE in Primary Education. She has the responsibility of monitoring the early years (Nursery and Reception classes) and the arts within school.
